My computer slowed to a crawl and the only thing I can find is that theCPU
is running at 100% ALL THE TIME!

What would cause this? The computer boots and then completely slows down.

Malware/Trojan/Virus?

What does Task Manager show ? Try right clicking on the blue bar at the
bottom of the screen and select Task Manager from the popup menu.

Alternately, you can use Process Explorer from Sysinternals.

If neither of those will run, you may have a malware problem. Malware
doesn't particularly want to be discovered. And in any case, it may
be able to hide itself.

Can you see a particular thing using the CPU ?

First, a word about Task Manager

System - threads assisting the OS, close to zero
System Idle Process - runs when nothing else is ready to run
Equals 100% when system is IDLE.
Equals 0% when some other process is hammering the system
(Any others) - the percentage indicates how much they're using

The total of all of them should be 100%. For example, Firefox
might be 50%, System might be 0%, System Idle Process might be
50%. That means Firefox is using half of the CPU resources and
that is what you'd mainly be interested in. The "System" usage
should be low most of the time. The System Idle Process is
there, just to make the total equal 100%. You can learn more
about the System Idle Process, here.

something called MOM.exe was using 99% of the CPU. Disabled it and now all
seems well. Will let you all what happens. THANK YOU!

MOM is part of ATI's Catalyst Control Center. You might try updating your
ATI drivers to see if that helps any.

Now that MOM.exe is not a problem...the computer will not hibernate..i can
only turn it off.
Any suggestions about Hibernation?

Turning MOM of is not a fix. Get it fixed and hibernation may work again
(assuming that it used to work).
Have you scanned for malware as suggested in previous replies? Do that
first, fix the MOM issue, then worry about hibernation.

I couldn't find anything that documents what that .exe does.
It does seem to be part of the ATI driver.

Uninstalling the ATI driver and reinstalling it again might be
an option. That is what someone who built their own computer
might try. If this is a laptop, sometimes you need the
driver from the manufacturer, as it may have customizations
(to run the LCD panel). But for desktop video cards, you
may be able to use a driver straight from ATI (amd.com).

If you can locate the "mom.exe" file, you might upload it
to virustotal.com and have it scanned.

C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\MOM.exe

I did scan for malware ..only found the MOM.exe ATI drivers. The only
MOM.EXE file was in the ATI folders.No separate file. Will try a new driver
from ATI.
Anyway..will keep trying and thanks again

Did you quarantine it, or tell the scanner to ignore it?
