CPU not identified properly

Error on my part perhaps,. I was building a second hand computer from parts,
using an ASUS P4C-800e Deluxe board and a P4 1.6 cpu. The cpu came to me
with some pins bent. I think i managed to fix them as they went into the
board ok, but when I powered up the system, i didn't get any post. I am
assuming that the cpu was damaged or that I have the wrong cpu. I know it
was a socket 478, as otherwise it would not fit correct??

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
