CPU Hog Warning-AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.0.50

The other day, I downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.0.50. I immediately
shut off automatic updates, real-time scanning, and one other process
that loads with Windows (no, I don't remember the name, and I've already
uninstalled the program).

Right around the same time, I also updated my Logitech webcam software,
which, it turns out, is known to hog CPU.

Imagine my surprise when the uninstallation (if that's even a word) of
the Logitech software did not solve the problem I was having.

My computer was almost unusable, and I couldn't imagine what was causing
the problem. It wasn't just CPU cycles; it's a memory hog and the HDD
was spinning all the time.

After a couple of hours of "when in danger or in doubt, run in circles,
scream and shout), not to mention a good night's sleep, I ran driver
verifier. I've had this problem with Logitech before--a mouse driver was
just killing my computer--and I figured that somewhere along the line,
I'd installed something I didn't remember. Well, my memory isn't that
far gone, but sure enough, AVG had planted an unsigned driver on my
machine. I uninstalled the whole mess, and everything is running
smoothly again.

I found nothing in Google or Google Groups when I did a search, so I
thought I'd make this post for the next poor schmuck that comes along
with the same problem.

Given that I'm have a Dell laptop with XP SP2, there's no doubt in my
mind that s/he will be along shortly.

I have the Logitec Quick Cam Communicate STX and have no problems with it.
I don't run AVG but run a combo of Avira and Ewido. I frequently multitask
with many things open to the tune of more than 400 megs of commit charge
memory in use out of 1 gig. Basically I can do what I want without fear of
say aborting a DVD burn or some other sensitive application. HOWEVER, this
isn't on a Dell laptop, it's on an EMachine T6216. I didn't used to like
AMD processors but I have to admit this Athalon64 rocks.

AVG bought Ewido, which is now AVG Anti-Spyware.
I have read many reviews, and they all say AVG anti-spyware is not a
resource hog.

And have you given AVG this feedback?
http://www3.grisoft.com/doc/51/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

Did you post about this issue to the AVG AS forum?

Well, the unidentified problem was AGV, because Logitech admits the 100%
CPU usage is a known issue, but with that said...

I have the QuickCam Pro 5000. With the QuickCam 9 software, some of us
got a BSOD every time we tried to use the cam. They came up with the
following workaround:

http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...p?p_faqid=2837

Then, they fixed that with the QuickCam 10 software, but, as I said, you
have that pesky 100% CPU usage to deal with, and it is a known issue,
about which nothing has been done since the end of August:

http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...p?p_faqid=5336

I may not have been entirely clear, Mr. Plow. It wasn't the two
together. There's an issue with both, separately. Even after I
uninstalled the QuickCam software, the AVG Anti-Spyware driver was
killing my computer.

On my laptop, it is a terrible resource hog.

No and no, but now that you've given me links, I suppose I'll have to.

Thanks. I think.

Well I would have returned that cam and demanded a full refund. The
Communicate STX I own uses no CPU and is the same device but maybe 15
bucks less. Should be no reason for 100% CPU usage. :-(

Every Logitech web cam I've installed and used in the last 5 years has
always been a cpu hog. Any other cam sw has been a-ok.

Any other peoples experiences with Logitech cam?
