I am wondering it has only been doing this that I know of since today. when I
go into task manager in the processes tab. the graph is red and then changes
to green. is this a normal thing? if not what can be done to find out what is
going on?

Normal. The red is simply kernel time. You can turn it off in you want
to.
View; Show kernel times. Then it'll be green too and indistuinguishable.
