I have an older ASUS P4S533 motherboard that supports FSB up to 533 MHz. It
has a P4-2.4 gig processor (533FSB). It has three DRR DIMM banks (that can
hold a max of 3 gigs of memory). The banks are rated for PC2700, 2100, 1600
DIMMS. I have three 512 MB PC2700 memory modules in them for a total of
about 1536 MB.

My question is: Did I put the wrong type of memory in my computer? I
thought I just read that the CPU fsb should match the memory frequency? If
that is true, shouldn’t I have put in PC2100 (266MHz) memory (266 x 2 =
532MHz)?

The Asus MB manual says I can put PC2700 (333MHzs). That seems
contradictory since that would work out to 666MHz. Or the more likely
possibility is that I REALLY DON’T KNOW THE CORRECT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CPU
FSB, MB FSB AND MEMORY FREQUENCY.

Anyway, I would really appreciate a quick explanation of this topic and to
know if it was ok to put PC2700 memory in my computer.

The faster memory stick cannot run any faster than the bus - so you can use
the memory you have with no problems. There is no reason to swap out for
somethng slower as long as what you're using is working.
