CPU fan Speed

I have a Asus P4C800-E Deluxe with a P4 Prescott 2.8E.
I am using the stock Intel H/F.
The CPU fan runs anywhere from 2500 to 5000 RPM, depending on how hard the
system is working and how hot the CPU is.
I have Asus Q-Fan disabled in the bios and still the fan varies its speed.
What is controlling the CPU fan speed?
Thanks
Ken

I'm not certain but it might be the same as my P4-640 (3.2)--the fan
heatsink has a sensor that's used if you have a 3-wire connector. If it has
4, then it's probly the internal cpu sensor doing the control.

The Intel fans have thermal fan speed control built in. (Same with the
AMD stock fans.)

The best way to 'over ride' it would be to get a new hsf that doesn't have a
thermal fan speed controller.
