Hi

I need to find out what kind of CPU multiple machines are
running at

UNFORTUNATELY I CANNOT RESTART THE MACHINES TO FIND OUT
THE INFO ON BOOTUP.

I have gone into Sys Info, and even Right Clicked on My
Computer, Properties and managed to the following

Family ?, Model ?, Stepping ?

But I have now Idea what this is.

I have MANY MANY MANY computers like this, is there any
way Someone could direct me to a WEB site that will tell
me what they mean,
e.g.
Famliy ?, Model ?, Stepping ? = P4 1.7Ghz,
Famliy ?, Model ?, Stepping ? = P3 500Mhz, etc.

You help is grately appreciated.

Anthony.

If your frontside bus is 100 MHz...
the PII 500 MHz is running 5x

If the FSB is 133, then the 1.7 GHz is 12.5 or 13

You can look on the mobo mfg'r web site to find specs for
your combination.

Do a google for CPUID, should do what you want.

Do a Google search for AIDA32 or "Bel Arc Advisor" these
free programs will give you a report on all the hardware and
software on your computers. (It is free for home users, if
you are otherwise, there are costs).

After you get the report on the name, make and model (also
they report serial numbers) you can enter the name of the
company that built your motherboard (mobo) and get the mobo
manual.

Google will help you find the URL for mfg'rs that are
obscure. www.intel.com is just one of dozens of mfg'rs.

To answer the question, the motherboard runs at a speed
called the frontside bus speed, the speed at which
components talk to each other, such as the hard drive to the
CPU.

Common FSB speeds a long time ago were at 33 MHz and then
faster at 66 MHz, then they got really fast ay 100 MHz.
When Intel released the Celeron processor they limited it to
66 MHz mobo.
Then mobos got faster at 133 MHz. Now we have mobos that
run at 400, 533, 800 and even 1000 MHz.

The CPU has a clock multiplier, so to know the speed of the
CPU you run the CPU at a multiple of the FSB speed.

AGP video slots (cards) can run at bus speed or higher 2x 4x
and 8x)

RAM may run at DDR double data rate, again twice the FSB
speed, you need 800 MHz DDR RAM on a 400 FSB.

And if you write wot instead of what, you may be stupid.

AIDA32 or Bel Arc Advisor will report that information.

Hi Jim

Holy SH*T

Ok, got all that, and makes sense, will try that, but
means I will have to call all 30-40 stores again. Was
hoping I didnt have to.

Thank again for all the wisdom and help. Muchly
appreciated.

Now as for "WOT", I was tired, lazy and fed up

And besides, I'm from Australia, its friday 5pm, P.O.E.T.S
day(**** Off Early Tomorrows Saturday)and nearly beer
o'clock.

Thank you once again.

Anthony.
