hi guys.... i have this little bit of an issue here...
i've upgraded my CPU (AthlonXP 2000+) for this new one (Athlon XP 2200+) I
know....there isn't much of a change....but .... i got a great deal on this
so i would want to say no..... the thing is that i bought the bigest coolest
and most expensive FAN COOLER for it...... i had the older one with the in
box fan.... the AMD one.... well, this one was OEM so....no fan.... thas why
i bougt the other one.... the 2000+ worked around 38 or 39 ºC..... but this
one with this 35 dls fan is working at 53 or 54 ºC.... and i'm beggining to
worry since it is runing much much slower that the 2000+ and it also some
times hang for a second or two and then comes back...... what do you
recomend???
(and is it normal that all fans i used in this machine run at 3000 RPM max?
they should be doing it at 4500 i am wright?)

There are several differences between OEM and Retail CPUs.

The first is price. The difference is about the cost of the fan that you
don't get with the OEM.

The second is that with OEM, it's difficult to tell if it's been used,
tampered with, altered; that retail packaging makes it more obvious if
someone's handled the CPU. Remarking chips is one way unscrupulous people
make lots of extra money. Selling used for new isn't all that uncommon,
either

Third is warranty. 3 years for retail, not many questions asked. OEM is one
year, and generally only through the OEM, not returned by you. And since
you're not using an AMD fan, overheating problems probably aren't going to
be covered.

My bet is that either your new fan is having problems, or the chip itself is
the culprit. You shouldn't notice much of a speed difference between those 2
CPUs in normal use (although benchmarking should show something) but if
you're saying that it's noticeably slower, there's a problem. Let's hope you
still have that old CPU to put back in there.
