I have an xp 2400+ 266FSB and ddr 2700 512 ram 333mhz

I've heard that it is best to match the cpu's fsb to the
rams speed so they can work better together.

So I have brought my ram speed down to 266mhz.

Is this the right thing to do?

How was you running you ram at 333 when your FSB is running 266MHZ's. Some
Boards will let this happen.
