My machine was fine until I installed PeoplePC.
Now the machine is slow and useless when bowsing the web.
It is only running Norton Firewall, Internet Explorer and PeoplePC
dialer.

The main culprit seems to be PeoplePC dialer.
As far as I can see the peoplepc setup seems to mess with System Files
and System Registry. (installed in C:\Program Files\ISP50\)

Would I fix this if I reinstall IE?
If yes how can I reinstall IE on a XP machine?
I do not see IE in the Add/Remove Programs.
(I hope to fix this problem if I reinstall all the files packaged for
IE.)

Any information on how to restore IE files will be very welcomed.
Any other information is also welcomed.

FYI:
They are aware of the Memory & Resources Consumption problem.
They even seem to have a fix.

I contacted them, the answer was:

"Regarding your concern, to resolve this behavior, manually remove and
reinstall the dialer software. Please ensure that you are NOT
connected to the Internet before following the procedure Given below."
And also "Now, you will need to download the new dialer. Please follow
the steps given below" A copy of the isp_50_setup.exe is also attached
along with this e-mail.
I never received the attached files. I received only a link to an
empty web page.

Please don't send me direct emails at this address, use the newsroom,
or go to http://contactez.net/portfolio.html

The only suggestion is to uninstall it and leave it off.
If their solution is unavailable or does not work, that is all you can
do.

You say "Norton Firewall, Internet Explorer and PeoplePC dialer."
No anti virus?
Do you routinely check for spyware?

PeoplePC may be the spyware.

uninstall peoplepc
people pc dialer and toolbar uninstalling and removal guide
http://www.spysweeper.com/uninstall-peoplepc.html

If you only want to use the PeoplePC Dialer and just want to eliminate the
toolbar that it adds to Internet Explorer

Thanks Jupiter Jones,

Yes you are right the only solution may be to leave it off.
I also run the Norton anti virus, I simply did not list it in my
previous post.

(Norton Firewall and Norton anti virus, Internet Explorer and PeoplePC
dialer)

I use PeoplePC Accelerated. If I remove the PeoplePC Dialer I also
remove the PeoplePC Accelerated. I will see if I can remove the dialer
and keep the accelerated access. If not I may have to find another
provider.

I created a connection via Windows Control Panel and connected fine.
The system was still very slow when browsing because the CPU was
always at 100%. The PeoplePC Accelerated software was running in the
task bar, but the PeoplePC dialer was not.

Any suggestion is always welcomed.
Thanks for your help and warm regards,

Thanks Wes,

Before I posted my question in the forum I had already eliminated the
toolbar that PeoplePC adds to Internet Explorer. It did not help ;O(

I printed the information you have at
http://www.spysweeper.com/uninstall-peoplepc.html and I am going to
try and see if I get farther now.

I also went to the site http://www3.telus.net/dandemar indicated by
Jupiter Jones.

I am going to see what I can do with that information.
Sounds promising. I wil try and see if I can get to normal browsing
speed.

Thanks for your help and warm regards,

I ran Spy Sweeper and Ad-Aware.
They both found a lot of registry keys and unwanted files on my
system.
The cleaning helped anyway, but did not help on the CPU being full at
100%.

I also ran Regmaid and RegClean.

When I FTP, the problem did not appear.
It is only when I ran IE with People PC connection.

I removed PeoplePC and like during the installation they asked me to
reboot the machine. This implies they replace files that are in use
during the installation.

I changed provider and now my CPU is fine, I can browse the web at
high speed.

Thank you for your help, cleaning the adware, keyloggers, unauthorized
accesses, advertising magnets, banners, profilers... really helped my
machine anyway.

I recommend all users to get Ad-Aware and/or Spy Sweeper.

THANKS!

Seems like AOL Instant Messenger Service and AOL Toolbar was also
responsible for causing the CPU being full at 100%.

I found many registry entries left over from an old AOL installation.
