Hi, we have 2 machines running windows 2000, one brand
new, 1 about 3 years old, when the machines are first
booted they are fine, all is okay and all the applications
appear to be running fine.
After the users have accessed the internet, the machines
begin to slow down, eventually they have to quit explorer
as it seems to stop responding.
The machine becomes completly unresponsive and when we go
into task manager we see that there is an instance of
IEXPLORE.EXE running at 95%+ even though it's not loaded
on the screen anymore.
I have searched the Net and found that it seems to be a
problem for some people, yet nobody seems to know how to
fix it or what causes it, everyone seems to have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling just about everything on
their machine, but to no resolution.
The only thing I can think of doing for these users now,
is getting them to use netscape or similar and not
envoking enternet explorer at all, but that's then going
to play havock with implementing web-based data-access
from our iSeries server next year! I realy want to resolve
this.
Both machines are currently up-to-date with the latest
service packs of OS and Office. Virus checker is bang up
to date and there is no registered spyware on the machine
as far as adaware reports!
Any help anyone can offer will be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Ken.
