Two. One has been mentioned here before but I thought I'd mention it again.

1. Artrage
http://ambientdesign.com/artrage.html

From the site:
"ArtRage is a painting package designed to provide a realistic and fun
simulation of using paint on a canvas, along with pens, pencils, crayons,
and other tools. You can run ArtRage on a normal Windows machine with a
mouse, but it works particularly well if you have a graphics tablet. Even
better, running ArtRage on a TabletPC takes advantage of the unique
interaction of pen and screen to produce a realistic painting feel.

ArtRage is all about playing with paint without the mess, and having fun in
the process. You can paint your own image from a blank canvas to completed
work, or load in a picture to trace and have the tools pick their colours
for you as you paint over it."

I just bought a WACOM tablet - this proggie works very well with it. . .

2. The Great Kazoo (thanks to Freeware World Team for this one. . .)
http://www.mp3mymp3.com/the_great_kazoo.html

You place a number of sound or music loops in a folder. Point the program to
the folder and it will randomly combine them in 1 to 4 channels.

From the site:

"With the right number, and combination of sounds you can create some
interesting randomly generated music that plays on and on.

You can loop and lock certain channels or mute them. Locking a channel
allows you to keep a certain sound within a channel even if you pick another
directory to randomly play files from.

Many people use this program as an ambiance generator, I think bird lovers
quite like this program. Some light rain, a few bird noises, some wind and
sound effects and you can create a ever changing soundscape that will
surprise you. "

Kinda neat. In one example, I had a folder of about 10 traffic noise loops.
The proggie created an everchanging soundscape of traffic. In another
instance, I dl'd short electronica clips from the web put these in a folder
and let the program go to work. Some interesting stuff produced. . . Best to
use music with the same BPM.

Enjoy. . .

M

If you cruise over to http://www.sounddogs.com/start.asp you can dl all
sorts of short clips of music and sound effects. Pick a combination of
suitable sounds and "roll your own" soundscape. I just happen to find the
combination of rain and traffic relaxing.
