I've got a 2 year old Toshiba laptop that I purchased at a "Big Name" store
that would not deal in counterfit SW. Microsoft has sent a popup and status
bar message that state that my XP Home is counterfit. How can I fix this?

Contact the Big Name store and get them to give Microsoft hell.

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that "Lisa Murphy"

Check in System Restore to see if you've got a restore point prior to any
recent installation of updates.

this might help
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...A/1151081362/1

but it would be helpful for you to get the product id
with something like BeLarc

then you should contact Toshiba Support & figure out
why they gave without a legit o.s. and the
restore cd's or oem or retail setup?

if toshiba distributed the laptop without
an o.s., then it is likely your perception can
be faulty.........

Hope you can enlighten us afterwards... : )~

The Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is known to give out "false" warnings on
large install based versions of XP.

Should not even be happening. If the Vista version of WGA ever
gets adopted for Windows XP, along with its "kill switch", the
fallout from false positives will be deafening.

From MVP Carey Frisch:

Please follow this simple troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and install the WGA Diagnostic Tool
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56062

2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and
then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the "WGA
Validation Problems" forum and paste the results of the WGA Diagnostic
Data in a detailed post:
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/...aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and recommend
an appropriate solution.
