Interesting little article in PC World August 2003 issue. It looks OEM but
it's not? They found it online and at some local shops packaged so well you
can't tell. May as well buy good aftermarket ink so I save money and know
what I am getting, who would counterfeit aftermarket? hmm.

Someone cannot even imagine how much the counterfeight cartridges resembles
to OEM.
Some tips:
HP and Lexmark are recognized by the small marks the contacts have (meaning
they are put once more in a printer). Also the plastics are scrached, etc.
You cannot recognise them from package!!!
Epson are recognised from different color plastic case, and mainly from the
different shape and depth of air breathing channels (see the photos, only
the gray cartridge is original).

They are sold in big companies that the supplies department don't know what
quality the cartridges are because they don't have feedback from employees.
Half of these cartridges don't work.

No, at least in my country (Greece) they are sold everywhere. But mostly as
bulk for companies, high-end users, etc.
Also in Turkey they sequester about a million counterfeit cartridges,
according to what I've read in a magazine.

They also recently reported of falsified values of contrast and
response times in LCD flat screens. According to them, NEC even
filed a law suit against Viewsonic, which got resolved amicably.

Seemingly the hard fight for the customer makes sales personnel
acts very creatively...

This case of falsified ink has a different legal weight, but from
our customer point of view these cases seem to be similar: We do
not know if we are not being deceived!

What a load of *******s. You can buy after market ink quite easily that
doesn't explode and damage printers etc. If they had gone to that much
trouble to nakje them appear authenitc you'd think they'd actually put
printer ink in them and construct them properly. All in all i think it
shows just how overpriced all these oem inks are.

Yes, genuin Canon and Epson have holograms. They copy the holograms that are
inside the paper/cardboard. Trust me, unaware people or/and no experienced
users cannot distinguish them form the packing. The packing is better than
cartridges...
