Yes, this registry hack cure the problem with DOC-attachments in case
there is a problem with the file-type associations.
The problem discussed in this thread (and most of all the others dealing
with attachments) was something totally different, however:
There was a problem with all kinds of attachments and especially JPG and
TXT files which affected many system (though not the majority) after
installing IE8.
Thanks God (or better: some developers at MS) this has been fixed
meanwhile.The latest patch for IE (Cumulative Security Update for
Internet Explorer 8 in Windows Vista (KB972260) - 7/28/2009)[1] gas
brought remedy. With this update the problem which has kept us busy for
many moons is a thing of the past. Hallelujah!
