I had a few internet stoppages today just when I needed to use the net. Most unusual as me connection is usually very stable.
Came back this evening and me Mandy borked on me big time. Sort of got it sorted and it made me realise that it was time to end the love affair with Mandy. I've decided that a long term affair with Arch is where I should be concentrating me energies.
So after patching up Mandy for one last fling I startaed to download this

http://www.archlinux.org/download/

That will be the "x86_64 Core Iso. Could have gone with the Net Install Iso as it is a smaller download initially but decided the Core would suit me to a T. Anyways as part of me Mandy patching it looks like some programs were updated for one KTorrent. Now I don't know if it is the Mandy patching or some mysterious BT fiddling but intead of me rock steady 45 KiB/s I am getting 138.5 KiB/s whooooooooooooooopeeeeeeeeee . Big question is will it still be running at that speed tomorrow ??
Just noticed that Arch has arrived, the sweet thing came across in less than half an hour. Shock horror !! didn't even have time to finish me post.

I'll be posting all the gory details of me new lurve affair in the appropriate location.

Aye, let us know what it's like.

I've never got on with Mandriva and I must have tried about four different versions of it.

In fact a long long time ago, circa the year 2000, mucks sent me a copy on a CD cos he had broadband and I only had dialup at the time.

I never did get it to run properly.

Anyhoo, good luck with your new choice

Cheers folks

As usual I have been a bit too clever in me post

Message I was trying to get across was that me internet has seemed to have speeded up for no apparent reason. i.e. downloading speed tripled and uploading at least doubled as far as I can tell. Surfing seems snappier too.

Mind you AOL did send me a letter a few weeks ago telling me that they had upgraded me to a 8 Mbs service. Doubtful on the evidence as I have been paying for a 2 Mbs for years and only getting 512Kb

Perhaps your speed increase has something to do with BT's 21CN roll out? Some Exchanges have already been enabled, whilst others are due to be, over the next few months. Our's went "live" on 11th, and there was an immediate increase in download/upload speeds

Glad for you AB

It is a mystery Taffcat as,

"Services that are not being migrated on to the 21CN network (i.e. LLU, SDSL, DataStream broadband services) will be completely unaffected."

I'm on AOL LLU service. I don't not care a fig as it is faster and I'm happy.
