I got a error message regarding a corupt user profile
*.dat and I was wondering how can you repair such a user
profile on XP?

SUMMARY
Debug logging of user profile and system policy processes in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 requires a checked (debug) build of the Userenv.dll file. This functionality is included with Windows 2000 and can be enabled by modifying the registry on the computer on which the logging is to occur.

The output of this logging can be helpful in troubleshooting problems with user profiles and group policy processing, and should be enabled only for this purpose.

Use Registry Editor to add the following registry value (or modify it, if the value already exists):

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Value: UserEnvDebugLevel
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 10002 (Hex)
After you make this change, restart the computer. The log file is written to the %SystemRoot%\Debug\UserMode\Userenv.log file.


Also say if you are using a roaming profile (changing security on a file can prevent your profile loading).
