What do I lose if I delete my Outlook.pst file, does outlook recreate it or
do I have to and if so how?

if you delete your pst file, you lose ALL your emails, Calendar data, tasks
and Contacts that are stored in that file.

what makes you think you have a corrupted file in the first place?

I was attempting to synch my AT&T 8525 and the usb cable came loose and now i
get "pst file not closed properly" errors and oulook freeezes frequently and
everytime i close and re-open it it runs a 5-10 pst file check and
occaisionally it reccomends I open outlook in safe mode. hows that for a
run on sentence?

Locate the repair tool scanpst.exe, then with OL closed run it on the pst(s)
if it fixes errors run it several times untill no errors found
