i have been working on a large (250+ mb) jpeg in photoshop, saving it
constantly without any problems. however, after the last save i closed the
file by mistake and tried to re-open it unsuccessfully getting the following
error message: "could not open 'filename.jpg' because an unknown or invalid
JPEG marker type is found". i've tried copying it, renaming the copy,
changing the copy extension, etc. nothing seems to work and i have no backup
of it. is there any way to recover this file? please help. thanks.

You're going to have to try other tools. I somehow doubt you want to
try opening a 250MB jpeg in mspaint... who knows? Got a couple gigs ram
and some time? duplicate the file and try the copy. If it works,
File/Save As... another jpeg. If not, it's Gooooogle time.
