I have a corrupted excel file that was password protected. Is there any way
to recover something like this?

Use your backup file.

I had a similar issue.... easiest workaround I found was to install
Open Office and open the file with Calc (the Open Office Spreadsheet
Prog).

You can then resave as an xls file and open it again in Excel
