Corrupted data files?

I saved alot of data (.txt, .doc, .htm, .jpg, and Wordperfect docs) to
a dvd about 9 months ago. I have since done a clean install of XP, SP2.
Now none of the files are readable by the programs that created them,
or any others for that matter, either off the dvd or after I copied
them back onto my hd.

Anybody got a clue why this should be? The files come up normally in
Explorer, but clicking on any of them produces a screen full of
garbage. Clicking on a Wordperfect file brings up the WP app like it
should, but a dialog states that the doc is in an unsupported format.

Yet files that I currently save are fine, all normal.

Just one more Microsoft boondoggle!

How did you save them?
Have you tried the DVD in another system?

This does not sound like a Microsoft problem...
More like either something wrong with the files on the DVD itself (Have you
tried to access them previously? Did you check your backups worked?) or
something wrong with the DVD player/cable/connection or DVD itself (may have
been the whole time.)

Take the DVD to a friend, neighbor, office, friendly neighborhood computer
store and see if the files open.

When you copy the files back to your PC, Check the file isn't write
protected; by default CD & DVD files are read-only.
