Hello

I posted a few days ago but the problem has got worse;

I have corrupted my main .pst file by moving it incorrectly onto my D drive
(the irony was that it was to help secure my system)

Now, everything is working again except contacts

All my contacts are still visibile in 'contacts' but

1 Don't appear at all now in 'To' and 'Cci' when I click on these boxes.

How do I recover the situation?

I was told a few days ago:

You have corrupted your mail profile. You should create a new one.
Alternatively, if you have Outlook 2003 or earlier, with Outlook closed,
just remove the Outlook Address Book service from your mail profile using
the Mail applet in control panel, add it back in again, and then when
Outlook starts, it should be OK.

but when I created a new profile, everything was empty: contacts and
messages.

So I reinstalled a Ghost Image to get most of my emails back instead


Can the corrupted .pst file be repaired?

Can sm elaborate on the advice above.

You have to open the old pst file in the new profile - when you created a
new profile it created a new, empty, pst file....

You should have simply pointed your new mail profile at your existing PST.

What a palava

Everything almost back to normal except

When I start to type an address, the contacts still do not come up in the
'to' box.

Instead , I get a messages saying that Outlook can not find 'contacts' and
then a box comes up with 'Outlook address book' and a second 'contacts'

When I click on the second 'contacts', I can enter addresses into 'To'

So how do I suppress the first 'contacts' which seems now to lead to a false
path but also seems to come up first by default

Of course not. A new mail profile generates an empty autocompletion cache.
It will populate as you send messages. The autocompletion cache isn't
connected to your Contacts in any way. It simply remembers the addresses
you've entered while sending mail.

If you want, you can rename the NK2 file from the old profile so that its
name matches the new profile and it should start working again. Do this
with Outlook cloesd, of course.

Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address
books>Next. Choose the Outlook Address Book service and click Change.
Remove the bogus entries there. If you don't know which one is bogus,
remove them all, then stop and restart Outlook. Right-click your default
Contacts folder (and any other contacts folder you have that you want the
address book to show), choose Properties, select the Outlook Address Book
tab, and check the box labeled "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book",
if it's not already checked. Click OK.
