Hi all,
I've been running a Sapphire Radeon 7500 (64meg) in my system for over 2
years, running dual 17" CRTs.

Today I picked up a new LCD monitor(Viewsonic VP201b) and a Sapphire
Radeon 9600XT 256meg. My plan is to run the LCD off the DVI output and
one of the CRTs off the DSUB output.

I installed the 9600 and everything seemed fine on the LCD, installed
the drivers etc. Shut down the system, to hook up the CRT, and again
everything seemed ok. However after reinstalling my keyboard
drivers(moved it from USB to PS/2 port) and restarting I get no video
until the welcome screen; no post screens etc. Upon actually getting
something on the screen it's corrupted to the point of not even being
recognizable. I shut down, took out the 9600 and reinstalled the 7500,
restarted in safe mode, took out all the drivers (ATI and Keyboard (MS
wireless multimedia keyboard)) and started over again. Same thing
happened. First time, everything seems fine, if I restart, with or
without the second monitor attached, I get no video till welcome, and
garbled screen.
It doesn't seem to me to be a driver problem, as I'm not even getting
video at post. Could this possibly be a sign of an insufficient power
supply? or did I just get a bad card? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance

3 80mm case fans
Thermaltake Volcano 12 CPU cooler
1 cold cathode tube

I had the same problem with my P4P800 Deluxe & my GeXCube 9600XT - I needed
a new BIOS download before my BIOS Post screen would appear.

Later, I had endless lockups with the video card,(but that's another story).
I've bought a GeForce 5900XT now & no longer have problems. (A bit expensive
for a fix, but it works !)

Over on the sapphire web forums I came to learn that the 9600 series
doesn't play well with the KT400 chipset (the A7V8X in particular). I
ended up exchanging the card for an NVidia FX5700 based card. While it's
not as fast as the Radeon, I figure it will hold me over until I upgrade
the motherboard and can move back to a Radeon based card. Thanks for you

if you so aptly point out that the demise of your video was a direct result of this
smooth move, and i quote you:

then you blame the 9600 ? geesh.. get a life.

the main board you have most likely gave irq 12 (the ps2 port) to your video card slot
when you were usb. AND TRASHED YOUR KEYBOARD IRQ requirements. (whew - okay now)

simply put back the usb keyboard. and get back to the point where your 9600 works again.
and uninstall the wireless thing and go get your money back whew $99.


what i had to do to get one lcd off the dvi and one lcd off the vga (you call dsub) is
install each lcd flatscreen seperatley with the other disconnected. Once i had done that,
then with both connected i could view in the settings control panel
display settings the proper lcd on the primary dvi and secondary dsub vga. Instead of
"default" monitor on the secondary.


btw: you should find out IF that mincrosoft wireless works with your mainboard. I have
one, I just use the keyboard though, and a wireless Logitech wheel.
