Sorry, I obviously miss interpreted your post, in ref to 'Workstation'
If you create a new pst, then import old data, immediately shutdown Outlook, then start outlook using the safe switch; run>outlook.exe /safe do you get the same warnings? Unfortunately, the warnings were intermittent. If I go back to an old backup
I can try and figure that out. What is recommended in such a situation? Importing a PST file into another one will most likely corrupt that
target PST file; do not use export/import to/from PST files. If scanpst cannot repair your old PST file (and Outlook can still use it), then I would try the following - create a new PST file - open it with Outlook - drag-and-drop all items/folders from the old to the new PST file (use right-click drag-and-drop to select between Move and Copy) - close and discard the old PST file LarryMac wrote: > Running Outlook 2007 on XP Pro > > I was getting "another workstation is modifying your pst..." messages, but > Outlook was functioning most of the time. > > When I ran Scanpst.exe, it said there were errors and I had it fix them. > The result was a datafile called Recovered Outlook. I did that with the email without a problem.
It is not clear how to do that with calendar and contacts. Can that be done? If SCANPST can't handle it but it's working sufficiently to see most of the items, create a new PST (File>New>Outlook Data File), set it as your delivery location (Tools>Account Settings>Data Files tab>select the new PST>Set as Default), stop and restart Outlook, then: 1) if a folder in the old PST is not a default folder, right-click and drag the folder to the root of the new PST (the Outlook Today icon). Choose Copy. 2) if a folder is a default folder, open it in the old PST, select all the elements in it with Ctrl-A, right-click the selection and drag it to the corresponding default folder in the new PST. Choose Copy. For the calendar, you'll need to use a table view like By Category for Ctrl-A to work. When done with the copying, right-click the root of the old PST and choose Close. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Brian,
Thanks. I tried all that and it looks like the pst file is still in bad shape. Do you think a new profile needs to be created? If so, what would be the best way to import all the data? It can't hurt, but I don't see how it will help, either. And you never import from a PST or you do risk corrupting the mail profile. I described the best way to move data from one PST to another. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
