I've got a corrupt 2.5GB Outlook 2003 PST file. I've tried numerous times to
recover it using scanpst.exe but the program always exits with 'an error has
occured causing the scan to be stopped' right at the end of the scan. I've
also used pst2gb.exe to truncate the file but still end up with the same
error.

Is there anything else I haven't tried? Is there any hope in recovering this
file?

Is this a PST that was created in an older version of Outlook and opened in
Outlook 2003? Any PST created in Outlook 2003 or newer does not have this
size limit on it.

If SCANPST won't handle it, you'll need a commercial recovery tool. Start
