I recently made a change to a customers xp home computer registry to resolve
a problem with the c: drive showing up as the d: drive. After making the
change the unit will not boot into normal or safe mode. Last know good is not
working either. I know the registry key I need to change back.

Can you tell me how to make a registry change from the recovery console, or
how to edit the registry file directly from another machine.

Thanks

Boot from the Ultimate CD 4 Windows (www.ubcd4win.com) and load the
registry as a hive.

This web page should help you identify which file to load from C:\windows
\system32\config:

You cannot edit the registry from the Recovery Console. Try here:

Unable to log on if the boot partition drive letter has changed
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249321/

Change the drive letter back to what it was assigned when Windows was
installed, changing the System or Boot volume letter is not supported.
