I have 3072 MB of ram installed and this is confirmed by another program I
have running on Vista. When booting up or looking at the properties in My
Computer Vista says I have 2943 MB installed. What is the problem?

Hello,

The rest of it (129 MB) is taken up by the integrated graphics chip on your system.

128 meg of on-board video RAM subtracted from your initial total?

The small evil microsoft pixies that came with vista took away 128mb during
the night.

They take it all back to Richmond where they are building a supercomputer
with a planned 100M TB of RAM - which is just enough to run Vista Ultimate
smoothly with Aero.

;-)

PS - Not really.... what the dudes said above.

Now that's funny! But there might be a little truth in it too

I have a 256mb ATI video card installed on my system. Vista will still take
an additional 129 for the integrated chip?

In that case, the extra 128 MB is being shared with the video adapters integrated memory. There
should be an option in your BIOS to disable this.

It will until you tell the bios to stop doing it.

Thanks for the help. I have looked over the BIOS and I don't seem to see
what I am looking for. What would it be under? I did notice when I
rebooted that the message "memory consumed by system resources 128mb." is
displayed. I have recently upgraded to 3gb and this never appeared when I
only had 1gb.

Aye, HyperMemory Technology with AMD/ATI Cards, and TurboCache Technology
with Nvidia Cards.

Google it for a few answers.
