cordless mouse problem

I installed a Logitech CORDLESS MOUSE into my Dell Laptop
USB port/2 with no problem (driver recognized by Windows
XP/Pro). BUT when I turn off the computer . . . and
reboot it the next day, it forgets about the cordless
mouse and only recognizes the TOUCH PAD. Thusly, I have
to unplug/replug the CORDLESS MOUSE into the USB port
EVERY DAY, hear the recognition tone . . . and all is
fine again until I turn the computer off at the end of
the day. I am going to wear out the USB plug in device
doing this every time I start up the computer. ANY
ADVICE???
