We have several personal VHS tapes acquired over the years and know VHS
players are fast becoming antiques. Is there a method whereby I can transfer
tapes to CD's using my burner using a cable from a player to the PC?

Yes, if you are willing to pay for it, around $200 Canadian. Should be
cheaper in US.
There is a product named " VCR 2 PC ", under the brand name ION. It will
transfer your VCR tapes into computer, then to CDs.
I bought one named Tape 2 PC. It transfer cassettes to CDs via the computer.

You can google : enter ION

I don't know what this has to do with Windows Mail, however, a video/TV
cap[ture card will probably do this for you:

That's hardly a question for this (Windows Mail) group...

You will need a video capture device connected to your computer.
