Copying a thumbnail image

I did a really stupid thing; I opened a photo in Paint instead of copying it
and then a did a second stupid thing in clicking "save" not "save as" for my
changes. I'd like to recover the original image, I realise this might be
impossible as the data has been overwritten but the thumbnail is still
showing the original and I was hoping I might be able to copy it from there.
Any ideas would be gratefully received!
