This may be a stupid question, but I can not figure out how to take a screen
shot of a website and insert it into a report I am doing in Word. I want to
show a comparison of two websites, so I am trying to copy the view and put it
into my word document can anyone tell me how to do this. If I try to cut and
paste I get some crazy thing that takes up the whole page. I just want to be
able to cpy the part of the web page that I need. Any help?

Nathan,
Other than copy pasting it into another program (like Paint for instance)
and cutting out the part you need by selecting it; there is no other way
except use a program like SnagIt or another screencapture program that does
allow to select parts of the screen and save that. Anyway, once you pasted
in the screenshot you should be able to resize it easily by dragging the
handles that appear at the edges.

Thnaks for your response, but it does not seem to work. If I copy a webpage
(ie. select all) then try to post it in paint it won't. What I am trying to
do is take a view of a website an dput it in a report I have read reports
that do this all the time. It's the figure part of a report. Any other ideas?

I hope you mean by "I get some crazy thing that takes up the whole page" that
you get a screen shot or, if you highlighted part of the webpage, you get
that part of the webpage. Otherwise, you'll need to explain.

I have frequently inserted screenshots of webpages into my documents with no
problem (I've used to up Word 2003/XP).

1) I would hit the "PrtScn" button and paste the screenshot of the entire
webpage into a Word document.

2) Then I'd click on the image and the Picture toolbar would come up.

3) I'd then select the "Crop" button (it looks like two intersecting right
angles) and use that to pull in the edges of the image so that only the part
I want showing shows.

It sounds as if you're using Copy, which copies the content of the page, not
its appearance. Instead use PrintScreen (for the entire screen) or
Alt+PrintScreen (for the active window). This copies the screen shot to the
Clipboard, whence you can paste it into Word or Paint. As Luc suggests,
however, a dedicated screen capture utility such as SnagIt
(www.techsmith.com) is a tremendous help if you want to do more than just
copy the entire screen or window. For example, SnagIt can scroll to capture
an entire Web page (more than can be seen on the screen at one time) and can
also capture scrolling list boxes, separate screen elements, and so on.
There is a free trial available, and I think you'll find it well worth the
retail cost to purchase.

Thanks for your response, but I am not too sure what the "PrtScn" button is
that you are talking about. Otherwise this seems easy enough. Can you explain.

Thanks
Nathan

Nathan -

Another option is to use the crop feature of Word. If you are using Word
2007, then you should be able to find the crop tool when you have the
picture of your website selected in your document. See the Picture
Tools, Format tab in the Sizing group.

If you are using Word 2003 and earlier, then make sure you have your
picture toolbar turned on and you can select the crop tool.

Once you have the crop tool selected, then the sizing handles of the
picture will turn into dark bars. Grab those bars and drag toward the
area that you want remaining.

BTW - if you would like to try SnagIt, they do have a 30 day trial
offer.

See some additional cool things that you can do with SnagIt at
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/P...p?CMD=Archives
type in the keyword SnagIt for a listing of articles.

The "PrtScn" (or Print Screen) button is usually near the function keys at
the top of the keyboard.

See Suzanne Barnhill's message for the shortcut keys.
