copying photos to jump drive from "my pictures"

I have done this numerous times before and now when I try, I get error msg:
cannot copy file..the directory or file cannot be created. What has
happened. My files are compressed-what should I do...I have several pics I
need to save on this "E" drive. I have W XP home

Does your jump drive have enough room?

You say that you have done this before, which leads me to think you need to
remove some of the files on the drive to make room.

Yes I have plenty of room. Has to be something else.
