Copying mini-dvd to DVD

I have the Sonic cd/dvd program and when attempting to copy my mini dvd from
my Sony handycam to a blank DVD RW I get the following message,"your
recording device does not support writing to DVD media." Does this mean that
my computer lacks this capability and what can I do about it? Thanks.

Copy it to the hard drive first.
