To prevent the loss of macros stored in the normal.dotm if it needs to be
replaced, is there a Non-VBA way to copy a macro from the normal.dotm into a
document (as a "backup") and then copy it back into a new/generic
normal.dotm? The organizer doesn't seem to "see" a macro that's just saved
in a document.

In the Organizer dialog box, you can copy entire modules from the current
document (or from any document or template that is accesible from the dialog
box).

Note that if you want to recreate the Normal template, you are advised to
rename it with Word closed; a fresh copy will be created the next time you
start Word. You can then copy the code modules from the renamed template.
