I'm trying to copy large working files onto a cd to be
available to work on multiple machines. But the files
change to read only which doesn't allow for downloading
and updating. This is happening in both Excel and Access.

CD ROMs are read-only media. Copy the files from the CD to a read/write
media source, such as a hard drive, and turn off the read-only attribute.

I don't understand - you want multiple people accessing the files on the CD
at the same time? Even for one person to do this, it would need to be
re-writable. What's the need for the CD?
