I am trying to copy some emails onto a disc, but it won't allow duplicates.
It either replaces the existing with the one being copied, or if you select
no, it doesn't copy it at all. Many of these emails contain the same subject
line so there are several "duplicates" so to speak. Is there a setting that
can be changed so that when i copy, it does not ask me about replacing
duplicate files? These emails are for an attorney and i can't risk missing
any.

Which email client ? ( Outlook Express, Outlook, Thunderbird ).
Instead of copying individual messages why not copy the entire
data store ? Is this for backup purposes or for distribution ?

I tried exporting, but was notified by my attorney that they cannot open .pst
files. (I have outlook). Apparently either they do not have outlook, or they
do not know how to import the files. What I am trying to do is just open my
inbox, select all and am dragging and dropping into a "folder" on a CD. It
is working fine, however any email that contains the same subject line will
not be copied, or will replace a current one. That is what i am trying to
disable.....if it can be. My attorney will distribute whichever emails she
feels will need to be brought in as an additional exhibit, in which case it
will be distributed.

It can’t; you can’t have multiple files with the same name in the same location.
You need to change the filenames somehow.

That should not be a problem. When you drag the messages from the client to the
folder, as you noted, the filenames are derived from the subject, but any
duplicates should automatically be appended with a numerical tail. For example:

Some Topic.eml
Re: Some Topic.eml
Re: Some Topic (1).eml
Re: Some Topic (2).eml

Instead of dragging them directly to the CD, create a folder somewhere else (eg
on the desktop) and drag them to that, then burn the folder to CD.

The file name plus a date is a different file name as far as Windows is
concerned.

For example: Jones-1-4-07, Jones-2-21-08, etc. I have many .doc's
filed that way. It works fine.

Yeah, I know. I didn’t reply to your response, I replied to melanie’s. She
shouldn’t have to add a date to the filename, a numerical tail should
automatically be appended to the filenames during the drag-n-drop operation. It
may be getting messed up when she drags straight to a CD, which has to adhere to
different filesystem specs.

Try creating a new folder to copy the same files to.
