I rip mp3's from a lot of my CD's. I have mp3 libraries on three computers
Two are Vista computers, and one is XP. I always rip on the newer Vista
machines. So, after I rip, I copy from one machine to the other two across my
LAN
Normally, I am in the habit of first copying the ripped files to C:\Temp on
the machine on which I did the ripping. Then, across the network from C:\Temp
to C:\Temp. Then, on the two machines that got the copies, I move the files
to My Music.
Today, I erred and tried to copy from user\Music on the ripping machine to
C:\Temp on the other Vista machine. The machine from which I tried to copy
went ballistic. Nothing was copied, the window turned that horrid whitish
color that Vista windows turn when they do not work. Then the machine went to
a black screen and would not restart except in Safe Mode. I had to do a
System Restore to get it to run.
So, I thought that I was just being judicious by doing all of my copy and
paste of music files as temps.
So, is it in fact the case that using a Temp file is the proper way to copy
files?
