Hello,

I'm getting a new computer and I'm wondering if there is a program that
will copy files directly to the new computer
without having to use CDs. I realize that I'll need some sort of cable
to connect the computers.

Thank you,

ST

your computers have network adaptors also called NIC cards? Most modern pcs
have
network adaptors onboard (on the motherboard).
If you do, you can get a cable called a "cross cable" and connect them if
you have no other network....

It would be easier to hook up your old drive as a slave to the new
computer and copy over the files you want.

Agreed. Unless...will both puters be on a lan? Can use a backup or
synch proggy for that.

Hello,

Thanks all for the suggestions. Yes, the two computers will be on a Home lan, but I'm not sure how to

move files from one machine to another unless I email them, or use a cable from machine to machine.

I've never done this before so, for me, I'm in uncharted waters.

Yea, I'd say golferman's suggestion is still a very easy way to go but...

Not sure if you have both connected to the internet or not, but I have
a home network and just user Foldershare
https://www.foldershare.com/download/index.php
a freeware program from Microsoft which allows you to download files
from one computer to another.
You can transfer them one at a time or in a batch. Before Foldershare
I used a 1 gig key drive to transfer what I wanted. Cost about $50.
....not freeware, heh!
