Is it possible in Powerpoint XP to quickly copy custom
animation settings from one object on a slide to another
(like you can copy object formatting with the format
painter)?

Elaine,

Here's an add-in that will do what you want.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

PowerPoint doesn't have that specific capability without resorting to VBA
or add-ins, but if you are animating an autoshape, you can replace the
shape with another shape without losing the animation effects associated
with the original shape by using the "Change AutoShape" command (Draw menu
on the Drawing toolbar), instead of copying the animation effects you would
copy the shape (the new shape has the same animation settings) and then
change the shape.

If it is important to you (or anyone else reading this message) that
PowerPoint include an option to copy animation settings from one object to
another (without having to resort to VBA or add-ins), don't forget to send
your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
