I am ready to publish a site.
It is still subject to change (personal beta, in a way).
I want to keep a copy as it is.
Should I just use Windows copy and create a 2nd copy under a new name or
would that be wrong (all the internal file names would point to the other
directory, etc.)
Or should I publish it to a different name on my hard drive?

"Publish" it to a differently named folder on your hard drive, such as
mysitebackup
or whatever you want to name it.
