I have a new Lenovo Y410 notebook. It came with licensed Vista Home Premium
pre-installed. The recovery partition is located in a hidden drive E: with
about 13 GB.

I would like to make an exact copy of this recovery partition on a DVD. It
seems like an impossible task as Drive E: doesn't even show in Windows
Explorer. Disk Management says it is EISA formatted.

The problem is that should my hard disk fail, the recovery partition will no
longer be accessible. This is why I would like to make a copy of it before
such an event occurs.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You can create recovery disks. Either look in your manual, on Lenovo's
website, or contact Lenovo tech support for how to do it with your specific
model laptop.

Would be easier to boot a Linux Live CD and use partimage to back up
across the network. If it's ever needed to restore it, quite easy to
reverse the process.

I have had several IBM and Lenovo ThinkPads, and am a regular poster in the
unofficial ThinkPad forums, but I have never heard of the Y series, or Y10,
so it is not a ThinkPad.

Your answer would definitely be the correct one if other Lenovo laptops,
like the IdeaPad line and others, have the ThinkVantage software, but I
doubt it.

Cheers. But this laptop is not a ThinkPad by the look of it (literally), so
I really doubt it would come with all the ThinkVantage stuff which is
catered for enterprise, like R&R.

I use the Image for Linux and yes it can copy the hidden partitions. You can
use it for Windows. You don't have to have Linux. They also have Image for
DOS if you think you will be more comfortable with it. I have used both and
also Image for Windows which was the link you provided. They all have a 30
day free trial so try them and then decide if you want to buy.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep it in my for next time I need to do that.
As I would only need it for copying an entire disk with hidden partitions,
on an occasional basis, the free trial would do, so it's even free.
