Simple problem hopefully with a simple answer. I cannot copy a photo file
from "my pictures" onto a cd. My toolbar does not give me the "copy to cd"
option. If I try to use the "copy this file" choice and choose my
cd-writer/e drive I get an "e: drive not accessible" response. I thought
maybe my cd writer was broken but I can still burn a cd using my Windows
Media Player. I've also tried to drag the file to the e: drive in Windows
Explorer but get same response. I have Windows Xp for home, version 5.1
Service Pack 2, Internet Explorer 7 with cipher strength 128 bit. Am I
missing an obvious solution. Or is my system a little to old. All my online
updates are current. Thanks for any help with this.

Check to make sure that you CDRW drive is enabled.
Right click on your CDRW drive, select Properties, Recording tab, Enable.

If that is correct, you could try:-
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. Type the following in the textbox: REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
(Note that there is a space between ...32 and SHI...)
4. Press Enter.

You can't copy directly to CD using XP's CD writing capability.

You need to use the normal writing procedure or get a third-party
program that permits copying to CD as if it were a floppy/hard drive
or memory stick.

That's odd. I've been doing it for years. And I dare say others have as
well. Exactly what do you imagine XP's CD writing utility is intended to
do?

Try this:
Right click on the photo file you wish to copy to the cd.
Select Send To..... CD Drive

This should immediately raise an information balloon from you system
tray advising you that there are files waiting to be written to the CD
Drive you have chosen.
Clicking on the balloon will list those files and provide the option
of starting the burn.

Do you see the information balloon ?

"enabled" the drive it copied my photo file just fine. Like I said, "a
