copy/paste leaves envelope icon

Outlook 2003, platforms are Win XP Pro. Several people in our organization
have the following *intermittant* problem: in Outlook2003, copying TEXT from
Outlook and then pasting into Word, Excel or even another Outlook message
leaves an envelope icon. The users ARE able to select and drag the text to
those other windows - the selected text shows up fine, but that is very
awkward method of copy/pasting text. Lastly, sometimes a "copy/paste" does
nothing at all!

I have used "Detect and Repair" which tends to fix the problem, although
only for a few days. Rebooting sometimes fixes it for a couple of days, but
sometimes does not do anything at all. Any fixes for this?

it sounds like you are pasting the entire mail object, not just the text -
make sure when you copy that the text is in focus, not the message. you can
also paste into notepad first, then recopy or use paste special, as text to
avoid pasting as a OLE object.

Thanks for the quick reply! To answer: only part of the message text is
selected. I have experimented with one word, one pararaph...same result. When
pasted, it comes in as the envelope icon. Sometimes when pasting, NOTHING
comes in! "Paste" is grayed out, and I am positive that I have copied. FYI, I
am the IT person in my org, and when I starting getting reports of this, I
went down and watched the process and then tried it myself. This has been
going on sporadically for over a year, and I can find nothing about it on the
web.

I am fairly sure that this may have something to do with clipboard
corruption, based on other things I've seen. I have deselected Word as the
editor option, set the mail format to HTML...nothing seems to solve the
problem for any length of time. 'Tis a puzzler...
