When I copy something from the net and paste in into ms word or excel, it
locks up - forever. Everything else works fine, just not word or excel.
Ctrl-Alt-Del shows it as running, but 30 minutes later it is still status
unchanged. Now if I first copy it to notepad and loose the formatting, then
I can copy it from notepad to word or excel.

It was not always like this and may have started after I installed xp sp2
several months ago.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Are you fully up-to-date at Windows Update? At Office Update?

Check your settings at IE Tools>Internet Options>Security>[zone where you're
doing the copying]>Custom Level>Miscellaneous.

If no joy, does uninstalling SP2 (via Add/Remove Programs) resolve the
problem?

I have disabled:
download unsigned active X
initialize and script activeX controls not marked...
allow scripting of internet explorer webbrowser controls...
allow script initiated windows size or position...
don't prompt for client cert selection when no...


With all the warnings and crash reports and other problem reports with
installing and uninstalling sp2, I think that I will pass. If I uninstall
it, I truly may be sorry. Did I say that I love ms?
