I bought a new hard drive that is faster than my old
one. I Did a drive copy to copy the entire boot drive to
my new so that it would speed up my computer. But it
won't boot up when I make it the master drive. How can I
make it work

What software did you use to copy the drive?

If you used the software that came with the new hard disk, then you
likely got the partition itself copied, but there are some important
booting bits that didn't get set.

Try this: Put the new hard drive in place and remove (disconnect) the
old disk and put your XP CD in and boot the CD. Select the first repair
option and then run "fixboot" and "fixmbr". Then take out the CD and try
to boot from the hard disk. If it still won't boot, run your BIOS setup
and make sure that it is detecting your hard disk and attempting to boot
from it.

I used Western Digital's "Lifeguard 11" because I have
two western digital drives.

Well in that case, you should be asking Western Digital for their advice.
They have an extensive knowledge base, and you can also email their
technicians directly.

I also have WD hard disks and I personally found Data Lifeguard to be quite
unsatisfactory. But that's just my opinion. I ultimately gave up on DLG and
used my copy of Norton Ghost. Took just a few minutes and worked like a
charm the first time.

With datalifeguard you need to disconnect the source (xp) drive before
running the tools. The tools detect xp as pre nt 4 (8gb partition). Wipe
thenew drive using their diags - write zeros to drive (full) once xp drive
is disconnected. Then start up using datalifeguard disk and install using
their installer. On large partition. If you need an OS disc then restart
using the xp CD. Choose to run full install F8, esc. At the setup screen
choose make a partition on active drive. I usually use about 10 gigs. size.
Then choose format using NT.
If you are using drive copying, you will need to interrupt install after
the format ( or better yet after the partitioning/creating drive) then use
the cloner to copy the old drive (programs & OS) to the new drive after
using xp to format. After finishing you can put your docs on another
partition on the same physical drive (my favorite is to use the dlg
partition tool to make all partitions, then figure where to copy the old
drives contents) remember to activate the primary partition (and make it
bootable during copy/install)

As you can tell, I've had the same problem in the past - The above is how
I solved it. then simply convert to ntfs after all is running well.
