Copy Dialog Box

Windows XP Home SP2 (Build 2600)
WordPerfect 9.0.0.883

I often copy Dialog Boxes when I am writing instructions on the use of
software. In the past I have been able to copy the Box by using
ALT-Printscrn and then pasting this into a WordPerfect Document.

Since converting from Windows ME to XP I have not been able to do this
because the pasted item is distorted. I can paste the same thing into Ms
Word and it works perfectly. I can then copy the item in MS Word and paste
it into WordPerfect and that works OK.

Is there something I can do to be able to paste these copied Dialog Boxes
directly into WordPerfect?

Since the problem is limited to Word Perfect, 1) make sure you have the
latest version of Word Perfect or at least that your version is
supported in XP; 2) post your question in one of the Corel newsgroups.

WP version 9 is not fully compatible with XP so it's not surprising that you
are seeing problems. The current release is version X3 (version 13) and I
believe the first one that was XP compatible was version 11.

You could post to a Corel, WordPerfect newsgroup for more help.

I just received this response from the Corel Newsgroup:

"I just tested, using 9.0.0.883, and the Dialog image appeared as it
should."

I must have some setting incorrect but have no idea where to look.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Dave

I don't have WordPerfect so I'm just guessing here, but once you have
pasted in the graphic, if you select it is there some setting in WP like
"Format Picture" in Word? If so, you might find that while the pic is
set to 100 per cent in one dimension, it's set to more or less than that
in the other. Is there perhaps a "keep aspect ratio" option?

Since others have tried and failed to reproduce this problem I have
concluded that the distorted image is a problem on my computer between WP
and Windows XP.

Since I need the ability to copy Dialog Boxes quickly I have installed
FastStone Capture to accomplish what I want to do.

I don't want to uninstall and reinstall either Windows XP or WordPerfect 9
so I'll use an alternative program. I'm convinced there is a solution to
this problem but don't want spend a lot of time looking for it.

My thanks to all who replied.

You're welcome Dave. I hope that gives you what you need. I used WP8 on XP
and had intermittent problems with it locking up when it was started. It
happened about once every month or two. There was no pattern to it. The
document screen frame would open but then hang, the menus didn't load and it
wouldn't respond. Manually ending the task and restarting would result in
the same hang. The only way to fix it was to uninstall/reinstall.

I looked into this and found others, but not everyone, experiencing this
problem, and that's when I learned that versions 8-10 were not fully
compatible with XP. Version 11 was the first one Corel said was. By that
time version 12 was out, and I went with that. I'm still using it on both
XP and in Vista. It has been very solid. The cost to upgrade to 13 is
high, and the benefits over 12 are marginal, so I haven't upgraded. If you
can find a copy of version 12 somewhere I would recommend it.

In any event good luck.
