Another guy in my office has a nice chart which I want to use in my own
weekly report. He has it posted on a shared network drive. How do I copy his
chart into my workbook? I'm using Excel 2003.

Thanks in advance,
David Portwood

Open the workbook he posted then select the Chart or Chart Sheet and Chart>Chart
Type>Custom Types>User Defined>Add this to the List of User Defined Charts.

This will add the Chart Type to your xl8galry.xls workbook which you didn't even
know you had<g>

You then use that chart type as your base for your reports.

David,

You can copy/paste the chart from one workbook to the other, but the chart will remain
linked to the original workbook. You can see the linking with Source Data - Series tab. If
the chart is in a worksheet and is linked to the sheet it lives in, you can copy/paste the
sheet from one workbook to the other, and the chart will be linked to the (new) sheet, the
one that was pasted. However you get it copied, if the chart remained linked to the
original workbook, but you want it linked to its new workbook, you can change the linking in
Source Data - Series tab.

There's a newsgroup, microsoft.public.excel.charting, that's a good place for charting
questions. Jon Peltier lurks there, and is great with charts.

Thanks for responding, Gord and Earl. I ended up using Copy Picture/Paste
Picture. A picture of the chart is all I need for my report.

Thanks again, guys.

Thanks for the feedback.

I still think you should add it to your list of User Defined Charts for future.

Can't have too many of those.
