When I copy and paste an email address into the to field, the message is not
sent and when I look in the Sent Items folder, it is empty. Why?

Did you attempt to resolve the address using Ctrl+K?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. All
unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without
reading.

After furious head scratching, helpkipls asked:

The address doesn't have to exist in contacts. Enter the address, then
press CTRL-K. If it's a syntactically-correct address, it should underline
and Outlook should senfd the message when you click Send.
