I would like to know if there is a way to copy a cd without using recordnow
or sonic? I have Windows XP and only have one CD-ROM.

A program that will read the contents of the drive and convert it to
a .ISO module. Once in that format it can be re-expanded/written
to a blank disk.
Several programs can do this, such as IsoBuster or ImgBurn.

Probably. When I had only one CD player in my home PC I used Nero to
copy a CD. I'm sure there are many other options as many people only
have one CD in their PC.

What kind of CD and where to, (another CD or HDD as a disk image?)

If you just want data from the CD, you can just copy the files to the HDD,
then copy them back to the disk. For the most part there is no practical
difference between a creating a disk iso and copying a disk as described
above. If it's a music CD, then that won't work. You would need to rip the
files in wav or mp3 format, then create an audio disc with your software.

Why can't you use Sonic?

Most programs will function the same way. If you have one CDRW drive they
make a temp copy of the disk, then prompt you to put in the blank CD, then
write the CD.

If you want a clearer answer, post exactly what you want to do and what you
have to do it with.

Yes. You want to make an image of the CD. There are lots of tools for
creating ISO images from CDs.

If you're trying to make copies of bootable CDs, this is one of the only
ways to do it. Simply copying files will not make the copy bootable.
