Windows XP Home Retail
-original HD failing
-frequent lock-ups
-scandisk always finds and removes corrupted files
-scandisk remedies problems, temporarily
-new HD
-cloned old drive to new drive with included util.(WD)
-disconnected old drive, conn. new drive in primary
IDE as master
-boots fine
-doesn't present logon
-presents Windows XP Home screen, where logon should be,
without the logon
-suspect XP knows it's not on original drive
-all other parts remain the same
-have access to Recovery Console

How can I convince XP that all I did was copy it to a new
drive, and am using it in the same PC?

This is, or at least seems to be, a fully legal use of my
license. One copy on one PC.

Thanks in advance for any help

Just in case anyone ever looks at this...

I ended up contacting MS via their online support feature
where I was told that when transferring from one disk to
another, a fresh install was recommended. I tried a repair
install, but no dice and had to blow a saturday rebuilding
my disk.

Online support person was helpful and I've received no
less than 2 followup emails from him.
